The first was India (they were horrible and would not recommend building iPhone apps overseas), the second was a freelancer in NY who was good but didn't understand deadlines, and the third is a company based in Alaska (last place you would expect iOS developers) and they're amazing and I'm still using them now. If your friend is still looking for someone I can get him in touch with them.

Re: First AT&T 3G MicroCell Review (tested at two homes in San Francisco)

AT&T is not providing a cellular service. It is absolute robbery and a regulatory body really should investigate, especially in regards to the cancellation fee, which I believe will be increasing, due to the anticipated rush of cancellations when Verizon picks up the iPhone. It's been too long that most software has to be a web page. The new announcement from Apple today, in Dave Morin's words is "the best thing to happen to desktop software in 20 years."

For all the positive growth and change brought by the web, it has also cut off many possibile motivations to develop software and ways to get it into users hands. Thank goodness developers can once again sell their work directly ratehr than selling ad space and subscriptions. The OS X App Store may have as much impact on desktop software as iPhone has had on mobile software.

Re: What comes after The Social Network?

http://www.scribd.com/doc/538697/Mark-Zuckerbergs-Online-Diary

http://www.fastcompany.com/1693257/the-social-network-facebook-mark-zuckerberg

Sorkin responds on the issue of misogyny in The Social Network: http://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2010/10/aaron-sorkin-responds-to-commenter-in.html

Re: What comes after The Social Network?

http://larrycheng.com/2009/... is really interesting as a first-hand personal account.

http://techcrunch.com/2010/... Trent seems to agree with the idea that someone could easily execute on a better Facebook. I'd love to hear your ideas to make it more relevant -- I think how social networks deal with context and groups and the real depth of our connections (as opposed to the binary friend/follow or not) is the biggest challenge they all face. But if your app or startup that is going to solve this, then maybe what I really want to hear is your pitch!

Re: Canon SX30IS: test shots of the Blue Angels at Fleet Week San Francisco 2010

Hi Dale, I tried to photograph the Blue Angels this afternoon from our roof and didn't do as well as you did yesterday at Fort Mason Marina. I basically got two acceptable shots out of 68 -- although that's really not bad because (1) I'm really picky (2) I'm very inexperienced with photographing subjects that move and (3) I've never used a Canon camera before.

I did photograph the Blue Angels once before, with my Nikon D6000 DSLR. I had a LOT of focusing problems with it that the Canon seemed to not bother me with.

One thing I don't like about the Canon is that when you're shooting through the viewfinder, it displays the shot you just took for a couple of seconds. I'm fine with it doing that on the screen, but when I'm tracking a fighter jet I just want the picture snapped and the viewfinder clear so I can keep following my subject. I wonder if there's a setting for that...I'll have to look in the owner's manual.

It was pretty easy and fun to work with the Canon SX30IS, but I'd like to use it some more under my "usual" conditions (travel photography of non-moving or slowly moving subjects) to decide how I really feel. The Canon made me miss my old Nikon DSLR -- there's something about that sleek "snick" of the shutter closing that makes me really "feel" like I've taken a picture. It also wasn't as fast as my Leica D-Lux 4 -- but then the Leica only has about a 2.5x optical zoom so it would have been useless today anyway.

Thanks for letting me try it, and cheers to you for getting three really good pictures yesterday!

Re: Dear Foursquare: You just don’t understand my feelings anymore

Hey Dale, I certainly understand your feelings...and i agree...somehow Foursquare has become less fun...im still using it...but it's feeling more like a chore...without as much benefit...i do have some ideas on how to make it relevant...but...im saving that for my own app! ;)

Re: Canon SX30IS: test shots of the Blue Angels at Fleet Week San Francisco 2010

Thanks, Robert, glad you liked them!

Re: Canon SX30IS: test shots of the Blue Angels at Fleet Week San Francisco 2010

What are you shooting with now?

Re: Canon SX30IS: test shots of the Blue Angels at Fleet Week San Francisco 2010

Nice shots. In fact, that sounds so good that I'm likely to cancel the Comcast order... I'd much rather pay $50/mo. for 20Mbps with POTS included since that's 2.5 times my current bandwidth for the same price. I guess that's what they were alluding to when they said they expected my U-Verse to be upgradable sometime in the future. A shame AT&T doesn't offer it here yet (and that their service people are so bumbling).

Re: Comparing high-speed Internet in San Francisco: AT&T U-Verse vs. Comcast Extreme vs. Speakeasy DSL

Sonic.net now has an ADSL2 service, which they call "Fusion Broadband".
